Why Good Progression Beats Big Numbers
Every mobile RPG dangles a progress bar in front of you. The difference between a good one and a grind is whether that bar means something. The games I keep coming back to make each level feel like a real decision, not just a bigger number.
The trick is pacing. If rewards come too fast, nothing matters; too slow and you're just grinding. The sweet spot gives you a meaningful choice every session — a new skill, a fork in a build, a piece of gear that changes your approach.
Cheap respecs matter more than people admit. When experimenting is punished, players stick to safe builds and miss half the game. When it's cheap, they play with the systems and enjoy them more.
When we review, this is one of the first things we test. We'll play an hour, then ask: did anything I did actually change how I play? If the answer is no, the score drops.
